August 2010

We trust that you have all be enjoying your winter break. But with spring just around the corner it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming triathlon season. A group in Windhoek are ahead of the game and I just returned from a great workshop there.

Upcoming Workshops
Workshops continue Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The next workshop in Cape Town will be on the 21/22 August and then 24/25 September. The next Port Elizabeth workshops will be 28/29 August and 2/3 October.
Group Training in PE Update

It’s been a quiet winter for the PE training group with just a few stalwarts braving some chilly mornings but the group is slowly growing and the winter training will pay off. The group training is open to any TI Alumni.
Timing: The sessions will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 05h30 until 06h30. I am also considering including a weekly sea swim on Friday mornings during the summer.

Cost: The cost of joining the squad will be R250 a month in advance plus entrance to the Newton Park pool. The pool has various options available ranging from R21 for a single entry to R160 for 30 entries.

New 4 Week Swim Course

As you know I already run monthly workshops here in PE but will also now be running the same workshop but over 4 weeks as I did in Cape Town. The 4 week workshop will be on Monday and Friday mornings from 06h30 until 07h30. So let your friends and aspiring Iron People know. It is never too soon to start the swim training, in fact, now is the perfect time to hone technique in a safe warm pool before the real training starts later in the year.

Georgie's Racing
Comrades proved to a very loooooong race but was great fun. It’s since been had training for World Long Distance Triathlon Champs in Germany in August. This consists of a 4km swim, 130km bike and 30km run. Georgie will be looking for sponsorship as the team is entirely self funded. If you can help in any way please email Georgie at georgie@totalimmersionsa.co.za.
All being well Georgie is planning another assault of Mont Aux Sources before the main triathlon season.

Total Immersion South Africa is run as a partnership between Georgie Thomas and Pam Reynecke.  Georgie is an age group triathlete and has completed a number of triathlons including 3 Ironman distances.  Georgie is currently presenting workshops in Cape Town and will be expanding up the Garden Route to East London during 2009 while Pam Reynecke is up in Gauteng and will also cover Durban .

Georgie has just come back from 5 weeks at the Total Immersion studio in the US , taking the coaches course there.  During her visit there she spent time with TI's founder, Terry Laughlin, learning from the master himself.  Georgie says, I was lucky enough to work with a whole range of people while I was there, from recreational swimmers to Age Group Triathletes, even a Navy Seal.

Pam who has 30 years swim teaching experience also visited the TI Studio and spent time with Terry last year.  Pam says, "Once I learnt about Total Immersion I couldn't teach any other way".  Pam has had great success in taking even very inexperienced and nervous people and turning them into relaxed confident swimmers.

Both Pam and Georgie are able to work with non-swimmers right through to advanced triathletes.  Workshops are being offered right through December and January so maybe make the most of your time off and take a TI workshop during the holidays.
